Fixing dhclient in Debian Stable

Recently I installed Debian on a DEC Multia, I documented this install on my own blog. During my long upgrade process to a current Debian release from Woody. I encountered the following error:

midget# dhclient
Unrecognized Kernel Version

The way to fix this is to edit /sbin/dhclient and locate the line that contains “2.[12345].*)” and change it to “2.[123456].*)”

You’re only supposed to upgrade between one release at a time.

It’s been a while since I did this install. I don’t remember if I tried to jump multiple releases or not.

I remember my bigger issue was that there was issues with the aboot package in some of the newer releases of Debian which ended this project for me.

Eventually, I’m going to redo this install and try again.
